A BORDERS MP is encouraging people to "get involved" in curling and skating this year at a local venue.
John Lamont, the Conservative MP for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk recently visited the Border Ice Rink in Kelso and is encouraging Borderers to take up the sports – curling and skating – as a fun activity.
Mr Lamont said: "The Border Ice Rink is a fantastic day out for people looking to start something new this year.
“The curling team is always on the lookout for new members and there’s skating sessions for people of all levels.
"I’d encourage anyone who wants to get out of the house this January to give the Border Ice Rink a try.
“The rink in Kelso is a fun activity for people of all ages, especially families looking for something new to keep young children busy and happy."
The rink hosts scheduled club and public skating sessions on Sundays in addition to curling sessions.
Liz Martin, president of the Border Ice Rink, said: "It is a brilliant place to come for curling and skating for all ages.
"We have curling six days a week, with skating sessions scheduled every Sunday.
“Our curling clubs are always on the lookout for new recruits at all levels. Why not come along to one of our 'try curling' sessions?"
