THE A68 road was closed in both directions near to Carter Bar last night to allow for the safe recovery of an overturned lorry and its cargo.
The crash took place on the A68 northbound between Byrness and Rochester in Northumberland around 2.10pm.

At 9.30pm last night a road closure was put in place to remove the lorry and its cargo which included a number of mini tractor/diggers.
Police Scotland officers assisted with traffic management.
Diversions were put in place via the A6088.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2.10pm on Monday January 16 police received a report of a lorry on its side near to the A68 northbound between Byrness and Rochester in Northumberland.
“A road closure was put in place from approximately 9.30pm so that the lorry and the vehicles it was carrying could be safely uplifted. All vehicles have since been uplifted.”
