The A1 has now reopened following an earlier crash which resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man.

The crash took place around 3.30am this morning (Thursday January 19 2023)

Drivers are being advised to use an alternative route at this time.

A police update at 8.30am confirmed that emergency services were still at the scene and the road remained closed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving a truck and a lorry on the A1 north of Eyemouth, around 3.30am on Thursday, 19 January, 2023.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance. The road is closed and diversions are in place and drivers are asked to avoid the area.”

Borders Buses say that there will be delays to the 253 Service.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent three special operations resource teams and an ambulance to the scene.

A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 03.33hrs to attend a road traffic collision on the A1 near Eyemouth. We dispatched three special operations resource teams and an ambulance to the scene.” 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised three appliances and special resources to the scene.

A spokesperson said: “We were called to assist emergency service partners at 3.33am on Thursday, 19 January at the scene of an incident on the A1 near Eyemouth.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances and special resources to the scene, where crews remain in attendance."
