HAWICK Community Officers are carrying out winter safety checks in the town this morning, Friday January 20 2023.
Temperatures were minus zero across the region last night, so give yourself a bit extra time to make sure that your car is ready for the journey.

The region has been hit by a spate of collisions, mostly minor but there has been one fatality and two people have been hospitalised.
Officers are advising motorists to check that their tyres, brakes, windscreens, wiper blades and windows are free from defects, clean and clear.

All snow should be removed from your vehicle before driving off.
Make sure you drive to the road conditions as stopping distances will be affected by the weather.

Make sure your entire windscreen is clean, clear and not misted before taking off.
When roads are icy, drive at a slow speed in a high gear.
And accelerate and brake very gently.
