A PEEBLES woman has been walking more than 10,000 steps a day as part of a challenge to raise money for research into cancer.
Pilar Gausa Boix has raised almost £1,000 for Cancer Research UK as part of its Walk All Over Cancer campaign.
The challenge has seen Pilar, 54, walk an average of 12 940 steps per day throughout March.
And with the challenge ending on Friday, March 31, Pilar is hoping to continue raising awareness and raising funds.
She said: “I just wanted to do something. I always see people doing challenges to raise funds and this is a very good cause.
“Even if I don’t have anybody very close to me, I know so many people that know somebody that suffers with cancer or has died from cancer.”
A keen walker, Pilar wanted to use her walks to help others.
She added: “I also wanted to make a point that it’s easier than we think to do the 10,000 steps a day.”
At the time of publication, Pilar had raised £995, with £190 in Gift Aid.
She said: “It’s actually amazing.
“I didn’t have a clue how much I could raise at the beginning.
“I started thinking maybe £150, but in the first days I had so many [donations] I thought I’d put it up.
“I made the first donation myself and I’m going to do the last donation on the last day to round it out.
“I’m very, very pleased, and very touched that everyone’s been so supportive and generous.”
