DANNY GALBRAITH has agreed a new one-year contract with Gala Fairydean Rovers.
The midfielder has enjoyed a hugely successful season back with his hometown club, captaining the side to a historic East of Scotland Cup triumph and also securing Gala’s highest ever Lowland League points tally.
Despite other options Borderer Galbraith, who started his career with Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson before returning to Scotland with Hibs, had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.

He said: “When you get to my age you only get offered a one-year deal. I am fortunate to have had a few other options, but I was more than happy to accept the deal with Gala.
“The grass isn’t always greener, and this club have been great to me from day one. It’s a perfect fit as we like to play football the right way.
“It’s been a good season but our league form of late has been poor and we needed the victory against Gretna on Saturday to get back to winning ways.
“These three points means that we have now overtaken the previous highest points tally for the club.
“And on top of that we won the East of Scotland Cup which isn’t the biggest cup but for Gala it was a huge achievement and for me one of the best days I have had in football. Especially when you saw how much it meant to everyone behind the scenes at the club.

“You couldn’t have written the script with the two local lads, me and Ciaran (Greene), scoring the goals to win the club’s first ever trophy.
“I wasn’t supposed to be playing as I’d been out for six weeks but I was desperate to play.
“I spoke to Jimmy (Martin Scott) and we agreed that I’d play for as long as I could but he was right to take me off when he did. At that stage we needed to throw the kitchen sink at it to get back in the game.
“But it was a really special day and one I’ll never forget.”

The highlight of Galbraith’s Hibs' career came in January 2010 when he scored the winning goal against Celtic at Parkhead, so how does that compare to winning the East of Scotland Cup?
“That was another special moment” he said. “But I’d have to put that second to the cup win with Gala.”
