THE Borders is set to be the focus of a BBC programme airing next week.
The fifth episode of the new series of Grand Tours of Scotland’s Rivers – which goes out on Monday (April 17) – follows the River Teviot through Teviotdale, once the haunt of notorious Border Reivers.
In the town of Hawick, presenter Paul Murton joins the annual Common Riding.
In Jedburgh, close to the ruined medieval abbey, he is reminded of a crazy night flight by Nazi deputy leader Rudolf Hess.

Murton then joins a paranormal researcher in an attempt to contact ghosts in Jedburgh’s old jail before heading to the river’s confluence with the Tweed – a location for a once magnificent Scottish castle, and where a king went off with a bang.
Murton said: “In this programme I’m setting off down the River Teviot on a grand tour which weaves a route through the Borders.”
Grand Tours of Scotland’s Rivers will go out on BBC One Scotland on Monday at 8.30pm, with previous episodes in this series available to view on iPlayer.
