THE Fjordhus Reivers Hockey Club has received a grant of £3,000 from the Hayward Sanderson Trust (HST) to help players continue dribbling, pushing, and scooping.

Fjordhus Reivers is the largest hockey club in the Scottish Borders, boasting six women’s and one men’s team.

The club was formed in 2011 to fight the decline of hockey in the area and to create an inclusive club.

Janet Jack, Head Coach for Fjordhus Reivers, said: “Our mission was to create a ‘family club for all’, so we provide an environment where everyone can play at their appropriate level.

“We strive to keep costs for players down so that the cost of playing sport does not become a barrier.”

Pitch costs for the 2021-22 season were around £24,000, with this number set to increase further this year.

HST were very keen to support Fjordhus Reivers because of the positive impact they are making in the community.

Martin Hunt, Trustee of HST, said: “Fjordhus Reivers are building a stronger, healthier, happier and safer community.

“We know how important being active is, and being able to do so in a safe and fun environment should be accessible to anyone.”

The grant from HST will allow the club to keep costs for their 300+ players low, 80% of which are under 18.

Janet added: “We want our players to be able to feel a sense of belonging and build their self-esteem through healthy activity, no matter their age or background.

“We would not be able to do this without the support from the wider community and from organisations such as HST”.

HST are always happy to be able to support local clubs and initiatives, encouraging any organisations who could benefit from funding to apply.
