THIS year’s Beltane principals will be announced tomorrow night (Friday, April 21).
At the event at the Drill Hall (Community Centre) Beltane Festival chairman Paul Spence will unveil this year’s Cornet Elect, Cornet’s Lass, Crowning Lady, Warden of Neidpath, Warden of the Cross Kirk, and Proclaimer of the Beltane Fair.
This year’s Beltane Queen and Court will be announced at a ceremony next month on Wednesday, May 10 at 3pm.
A Beltane spokesperson said: “Due to the current refurbishment in the Burgh Hall, this year’s event will take place in the Community Centre (Drill Hall), Walkershaugh, Peebles where after months of speculation the principals chosen to lead this year’s festival will be announced.
“This evening’s entertainment begins with the traditional coffee evening from 7pm and organisers are advising everyone to arrive early to make sure of a seat.
“Peebles Silver Band will provide the musical accompaniment for what will be another memorable celebration in the build up to the Beltane Festival.
“We are expecting a large crowd as well as many visitors from other towns as we make a start to the Peebles Beltane Festival 2023, so it is advised you arrive early to secure a seat.”
Following the announcements the principals for 2023 will meet with guests.
Led by Peebles Ex-Servicemen’s Pipe Band, the Cornet Elect and their fellow principals will parade through the town before enjoying the Ex-Cornet’s Association’s reception at Peebles Rugby Club.
Peebles Beltane Festival will run from Sunday, June 18 to Saturday, June 24.
