A WEST LINTON man who is still recovering after a stroke is running the Edinburgh 5k for a worthy cause.
Ewan Ramsay, 52, was only 49 when he suffered a stroke.
He was then diagnosed with aphasia and is continuing to work through his rehabilitation – speech and language therapy, physical therapy, physiotherapy, and rebuilding his confidence.
Now, in a bid to boost his well-being, and help others in need, Ewan is set to complete the Edinburgh 5k on Saturday (May 27) to raise money for Renew’N’Able Malawi.
Before he became unwell, Ewan had previously visited Malawi and supported Renew’N’Able – a charity which works to educate people on energy poverty and to make renewable energy sources accessible to low income households.
Ewan said: “I have decided to set myself a goal. I’m going to travel back to Malawi – along with my youngest daughter Isla – in 2024.
“I have previously visited Malawi on numerous occasions – at least four times – and have volunteered to support a local charity, Renew’N’Able Malawi.
“When I’m in Malawi, I will be helping the charity to install solar panels at local primary schools, to help ensure sustainable renewable energy that people need to study, communicate, cook, innovate and be safe.”
Ewan has already raised £4,130 for Renew’N’Able Malawi, and is hoping to raise a further £826.
