PEEBLES is set to host a series of markets showcasing the best local crafters and businesses in the area.
The Peebles Makers Market is returning to the town this weekend with the first of three events.
Each of the summer markets – the first this Sunday (June 4), then Sunday, July 9, and Sunday, August 6 – will be held at the Drill Hall and will welcome more than 30 stall holders at each.
The markets are led by Nigel Young, Robyn Davies and Kayleigh McFadzean.
Robyn said: “We’ve got over 30 makers coming and they’re all from Peebles and the surrounding areas.”
There will also be a tombola at the markets, with the proceeds being donated to Peebles Scout Group.
Nigel said: “It’s about supporting local crafters. A lot of places try to make it so expensive to do a craft show.
“More than anything it’s about bringing the community back to how it was before.”
The summer markets will also have a new feature – Peebles Makers Market tote bags.
Designed by Robyn, the bags will not only help visitors to the markets who buy more than expected, but will also give the organisers more to reinvest into the events.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Nigel said: “There’s always a buzz about it [the market] beforehand.”
He added: “We definitely want to continue to supporting local groups that are a benefit to kids.
“I do think nowadays kids are missing out on a lot of things. It’s just doing what we can.”
The market will also include a face painting station for youngsters and Espresso Green will be selling coffee just outside the hall.
Peebles Makers Market has been highlighting the stalls which will join them this weekend on its Facebook page.
