A 42-YEAR-OLD man turned up at Galashiels Police Station and was abusive towards officers because his "door had been put in" as part of a search, Selkirk Sheriff Court has been told.

Steven Mitchell, of Beech Avenue, pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour on the evening of November 25.

Prosecutor Drew Long said the accused turned up at the police station at 5.25pm and was met by an officer.

He added: "Mr Mitchell presented as being very irate. He was shouting, screaming and repeatedly pointing in the face of the officer.

"The officer was concerned the accused would become violent and called for assistance."

Mr Long said Mitchell continued to shout and swear at the officers and ultimately he was cautioned and charged and made no reply.

Defence lawyer Liam Alexander said it had been a combination of frustrations his client had with the conduct of the police which led to the offence being committed.

He explained: "He had come back from Cumbernauld to find his door had been put in after the execution of a search warrant.

"This has happened two or three times.

"He felt he was being stalked by police officers. As some sort of intelligence operation he says police officers were going into shops after he had been in to investigate what he was doing.

"He had reached the end of line and vented his frustration.

"He overstepped the mark and took his frustrations out on the individual in the police station but he understands he should not have done that.

"He should have sought professional help if he had a grievance about the conduct of the police."

Sheriff Mungo Bovey decided to defer sentence for six months and told Mitchell he would be admonished if he was of good behaviour at the end of that period.

The case will recall on December 11.
