A FLAG has been raised in the Borders to recognise those serving in the armed forces.
In preparation to mark Armed Forces Day, Scottish Borders Council has raised the Armed Forces Day flag at its headquarters in Newtown St Boswells.
At a ceremony at SBC HQ today (Monday, June 19) the flag was raised by two members of 6 SCOTS - a Reserve Infantry Battalion within The Royal Regiment of Scotland - as well as representatives from veterans' charities and councillor John Greenwell, champion for armed forces and veterans.
Mr Greenwell said: "I am delighted that Scottish Borders Council is once again supporting Armed Forces Day, taking the opportunity to acknowledge the vitally important contribution made by everyone who is part of the military community, from our currently serving troops to the reservists, veterans, cadets and of course the families who support them.
“The support shown by our local communities throughout this week is also appreciated, as we come together in recognising the efforts of all those who work so hard to maintain the safety and security of our nation.”
Armed Forces Day, which is celebrated this year on Saturday, June 24, honours those actively serving in the military and their families, as well as veterans and cadets.
The flag was raised at a ceremony in Newtown today (19 June) by two members of 6 SCOTS, a . Also present were a number of veterans' charities currently active in the Borders.
Reserves Day - a celebration of reserve forces - is held on Wednesday (June 21).
