THE WORLD’S most famous steam locomotive will pass through the Borders today Saturday July 1 as part of a series of events to celebrate its centenary.
Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built for LNER, the locomotive was named “Flying Scotsman” in 1923 and continued in regular service for the next 40-years.

The Flying Scotsman was the first engine to do 100 miles an hour authentically and has circumnavigated the globe.
It is expected to leave York at 9.02 this morning as part of the Centenary Celebrations organised by the National Railway Museum and should pass through Reston Station around 2pm on the way to Edinburgh.

After spending three nights in Scotland, including a trip north to Aberdeen, the Flying Scotsman will return south, back to London on the East Coast Main Line, hauled by diesel.
Fans have been asked to be as safe as possible when trying to catch a glimpse or get photos of the world famous train.
