A CLASSIC story is being retold by young performers in the Borders this summer.
Twist is a new version of Charles Dickens' famed story Oliver Twist written and directed by John Haswell – the founder and director of Borders Youth Theatre (BYT).
Returning to the Borders for this production, Mr Haswell will be assisted by Oli Bisset, a former performer with BYT and a now regular director with the organisation.
Twist will be performed by BYT members who are just finishing in Primary 7, up to those who are 25 years old.
Members of BYT will meet with staff and fellow performers at the Corn Exchange in Melrose, where they will rehearse the play for 12 days before moving the production to its final home.
From Thursday, July 20 until Saturday, July 22 Twist will take over the stage at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels.
In addition to Twist, BYT will also have a project open to its youngest performers.
Best Friends Forever is a four-day project running from July 13-16 at the Southfield Community Centre in Duns.
Performers aged between eight and 12 years old will take inspiration from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to create a "story of division and how friendship can change the future".
BYT has offered professionally led theatre experiences for young people in the Borders for nearly 35 year.
Twist has been supported by Youth Borders, Localgiving, and the People's Postcode Trust.
BYT is also supported by Live Borders and the Hayward Sanderson Trust.
Twist will be performed at the Volunteer hall on July 20-22 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £9 and £6 for concessions and can be bought on the door or online.
