THE empty premises previously occupied by the Adriatico Italian restaurant on Douglas Bridge Galashiels has finally been secured following a spate of vandalism in the last few months.

Two lower glass panels on the front door had been kicked in and a white liquid was sprayed over the door and windows.

On Monday June 26 the front door was forced open and a fire extinguisher believed to have been removed from the building was thrown into the Gala Water.

The premises remained unsecured for several days.

A concerned local who did not want to be identified said that the vandalism had been going on for months since the restaurant closed and the matter had been reported to police and the Scottish Borders Council.

The front door has now been boarded up and the side windows have been secured by a roller shutter.
