A BERWICKSHIRE business has received over £1.3 million from the UK Seafood Fund to help it expand.

The UK Government announced this week that Eyemouth-based DR Collin & Son, a fish and shellfish provider, will receive the cash boost as part of a £20.8 million total funding increase for Scotland’s fishing industry.

DR Collin & Son has been awarded the money to improve the efficiency and capacity of primary and secondary crab processing sites.

The business, established in 1952, supplies fresh produce to award winning restaurants across Scotland and the UK.

A total £18.7 million has been awarded to 10 projects across Scotland through the Infrastructure Scheme to improve capability at ports, harbours, processing and aquaculture facilities.

A further £2.1 million has been awarded to four projects through the Fisheries Industry Science Partnerships scheme to provide vital research that will inform fisheries management.

Scottish Borders MP John Lamont said: “I’m very pleased that the UK Government is investing in the future of fishing in the Borders and across Scotland.

“This UK Seafood Fund grant will help a first-rate Berwickshire business to support local jobs and expand its operations.

“Eyemouth has a rich tradition of producing quality fish and shellfish, which this funding should help to continue.

“I’m delighted that almost £21 million UK Seafood Fund investment is being shared across 14 Scottish projects. The fund is a crucial part of our commitment to help level up coastal communities and deliver the Prime Minister’s priorities of growing the economy and creating better-paid jobs and opportunity right across the country.

"We are supporting fishing communities across the UK so they benefit from better infrastructure, new jobs and investment in skills to ensure they have a long-term and sustainable future.”
