GALASHIELS Hibs fan Darren Thomson who suffered a stroke six years ago following a blood clot on his brain is today (Friday) raising money for the BGH Stroke Ward that looked after him and the Gala Fairydean Rovers Disability Squad.
Darren aims to raise £10,000 and has agreed to be pushed in his wheelchair by volunteers from the charity Cornerstone that supports adults, children and young people who had a variety of needs including physical and learning disabilities from Melrose to Selkirk and back to Netherdale.

During the journey he will change into jerseys of a number of Scottish football clubs.
Accompanied by Alastair Jamieson and Steven Waugh he set off from Gibson Park in Melrose at 10am wearing a Dundee United top.
Darren became famous while recovering at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh when he overheard nurses talking about how they supported Hearts, fierce rivals of his beloved Hibs.
He then surprised hospital staff by uttering his first words in more than three months in response: “Hearts are s***e”.

That event went viral and Darren became a celebrity amongst Hibs fans.
But later on today he will be putting on the maroon jersey.
