A SITE of historic and religious significance has been damaged, according to reports from Police Scotland.
Officers in the Borders are seeking information after they received a report that the ruins at Jedburgh Friary, also known as Greyfriars.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police have received a report of damage to the Ruins at Jedburgh Friary.
"The Friary has been a scheduled monument of significance for many years with Historic Scotland.
"It would appear that re-laid excavated stones have been prized, and stonework has been chipped, cracked and loosened."
According to the South of Scotland Destination Alliance, Greyfriars is the "most extensive Franciscan Friary to be seen in Scotland".
Anyone with any information about the reported damage is asked to contact 101, quoting incident 2504 28th June 2023.
