The sandstone farmhouse of Chalkielaw, with four bedrooms and two reception rooms, is a restoration project in need of modernisation throughout.
The steading comprises an attractive former agricultural steading, cart shed and threshing mill and is also built of sandstone. The building is in good condition and currently has planning permission in place to develop nine homes, all with private gardens and parking.
Mark Paton, handling the sale for Galbraith in Kelso said: “Chalkielaw Farmhouse is a stunning Georgian property that, although in need of modernisation, presents an incredible opportunity for those eager to take on a renovation project to create what could be a truly fabulous family home. The farmhouse enjoys far reaching countryside views, is accessed via its own entrance and has a private garden to the south of the property.

“With the adjacent steading offering a significant development opportunity, the property presents a very exciting proposition for prospective owners to develop the site.”
The first possible reference to the property appears on the 1654 map, as "Calkyla”. The 1826 map indicates the plan of the buildings with the house being built with a U-plan court and separate rectangular-plan range to the northeast with additions in 1857 and 1900 and the plans of the property in 1908 look very similar to how it looks today.
The historic town of Duns provides an excellent range of local amenities including a wide variety of independent shops, supermarket and professional services. The town has a primary school and the highly regarded Berwickshire High School which forms the heart of the local community.
