The Premiership now has four Borders club competing for top spot.
Champions Hawick started their campaign with a 27-12 victory over Glasgow Hawks.

Jed-Forest also started with a home tie against Edinburgh Accies but lost 17-41 and Selkirk also suffered defeat to Currie Chieftains at Philiphaugh by 17-47.
Newly promoted Kelso shared the points with Musselburgh 31-31 in East Lothian.
In National League One, both Borders clubs were away from home. Melrose lost 42-26 to GHA in Glasgow and Gala lost 69-17 in the capital to Watsonians.

In National League Two Peebles beat Gordonians 27-17 and Berwick drew 22-22 at home to Stewart’s Melville.
In East League Two Duns lost 12-68 to Penicuik and Hawick Linden lost 19-33 to Livingston.
In East League Three Earlston beat Edinburgh Uni Meds 22-19 and Gala YM lost 17-12 to Inverleith.
Elsewhere The Southern Knights recorded their second win of the campaign, beating Stirling Wolves 27-19 at The Greenyards.
