A FESTIVAL celebrating country living welcomed visitors from "far and wide" at the weekend.

The Country and Food Festival on the Philiphaugh Estate, Selkirk, on Saturday (September 23) was a day-long event with a range of activities for visitors.

Due to the less than favourable weather, visitors to the festival turned up with coats, umbrellas and wellington boots.

There were stalls all around the field next to the Waterwheel Café, from local Selkirk businesses such as Lochcarron of Scotland and Three Hills Coffee, to others visiting from Edinburgh.

As well as the stalls visitors could take in a range of displays in the central ring including Highland dancing, a fly fishing demonstrations and BMX stunt riders.

There was also the chance for visitors try their hand at a range of activities including axe throwing, clay pigeon shoots and archery.

Antonia and Ed Strang Steel, directors of the festival, said: “We are thrilled that the festival was so warmly welcomed and supported for its first year.

"We can’t thank everyone enough who helped deliver it, the traders that exhibited and the visitors that came from far and wide.

"We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, that they walked away with memories that will last a lifetime and we look forward to working with so many fabulous local businesses and from further afield to bring the festival to life again in 2024!”
