THERE are no plans to reopen toilets in a Borders town despite their closure proving a hindrance to pantomime fans eager to spend a penny.
The toilets at Eyemouth’s old High School Hall have been closed for two years.
An annual pantomime is staged at the hall every year and no toilets exist for the hundreds of guests intending to attend.
At a meeting of Scottish Borders Council (SBC) on Thursday (September 28), East Berwickshire councillor James Anderson submitted an open question asking if there were any plans to reopen the toilets as the portaloos previously provided “do not provide adequate facilities for elderly and disabled people”.
In response, Kelso councillor Simon Mountford, SBC’s executive member for estate management and planning, said: “The council needs to be reducing its property footprint to ensure this can be sustained moving forward.
“There are consequently no plans to renovate and reopen the former Eyemouth old High School Hall toilets.
“These are closed and in a dilapidated condition and would require a significant capital investment to bring to a standard that was suitable for use.
“If the pantomime organising committee would like to obtain prices from local firm for portaloo hire the council will see what it can do to assist with these costs.”
