A PEEBLES youngster has won a boxing gold medal at a Scottish event.
Sam Brown took part in the Scottish Development Championships at Ravenscraig on Sunday.
The 14-year-old – who represented Galashiels Boxing Club – beat Beath Boxing Club’s Izatt Cayden to take the 2009 70kg B category title.

Brown dominated the bout from the start which saw him win all three rounds with a unanimous victory.
Coach Ricky Mitchell, who was at the tournament, said: “Sam boxed well from the outset using feints to his advantage and landing some beautiful counters in round one.
“Sam continued his dominance through rounds two and three, upping the work rate and landing some nice combinations to take a well-deserved unanimous decision and the Scottish Development title.

“It’s a pleasure to coach Sam, who has the talent and work ethic to go far in boxing.
“This will be a big season for Sam and we are looking forward to seeing his development.
“Everyone at the club is proud of Sam.”
