A DIY shop in the Borders has submitted plans to relocate to another site in the region.
B&Q, the UK's leading home improvement shop, has put in a planning application with Scottish Borders Council for a new 20,000 sq ft store at the Borders Gateway development in Tweedbank.
The new shop would offer locals to Galashiels and Tweedbank 12,000 products across its departments, including in its kitchen and bathroom showrooms, tools and hardware, paint and décor and garden centre, as well as its dedicated trade membership scheme, Tradepoint.
Abigail Cacia, Asset Manager, at B&Q, said: “B&Q has a strong history within the Scottish Borders area and is committed to having a B&Q store in the Galashiels and Tweedbank area to support the local community and economy, as well as to provide the latest products to local customers for their DIY needs and projects.
“If the planning application is successful the new store would offer everything our customers can currently buy from the B&Q Galashiels in a more modern environment and purpose-built store.”
If the planning application is successful the Tweedbank location would replace the store currently at Low Buckholmside.
Other services to be offered at the new store include click and collect, paint mixing, timber cutting, and there will be dedicated van parking for trade and retail customers, as well as EV charging points.
The Tweedbank site would operate on a electrically heated system, with no gas supply to help reduce gas emissions.
The planning application will soon be available to view and comment on via SBC's planning portal.
