THE South Scotland team in Doddie Aid 2024 has passed the £50,000 mark for money raised.
The virtual mass-participation exercise event was founded by former Scotland captain Rob Wainwright.
It lasts for five weeks from January 1.
Any exercise counts, with the winning district being the one with the most miles at the end of the event.
The North and Mids Scotland team are way out in front on the leaderboard with around 308,000 miles travelled.
Led by former Olympic curler Eve Muirhead, they have raised more than £90,000 for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Currently in second place are Jamie Ritchie’s Edinburgh with more than 235,000 miles covered, raising around £76,000.
Kelly Brown’s South Scotland team complete the top three on approximately 189,000 miles. They have raised about £52,000.
Next on the leaderboard are the Barbarians, skippered by presenter Kelly Cates. They have recorded around 174,000 miles, raising just shy of the South Scotland total.
Fellow presenter Eilidh Barbour’s Glasgow have journeyed around 159,000 miles, raising around £52,800 along the way.
At the bottom of the leaderboard are Wales, captained by Scott Quinnell. They have covered more than 70,600 miles to raise around £22,200.
The event raises funds for Borders rugby legend Doddie Weir’s My Name’5 Doddie Foundation which invests in research to find meaningful treatments for motor neuron disease (MND).
Over the last three years it has seen almost 80,000 participants cover eight million miles and raise more than £4 million pounds for the charity.
