THE story of Scotland’s history is set to be told with a comedy twist at a Peeblesshire event.

YouTuber and Scottish Comedian of the Year winner Bruce Fummey will bring a packed set to the Newlands Centre this month.

Stories of Scotland is full of jokes which take the audience on a journey from the origins of man to Scottish inventors – with stops along the way to meet the people who made Scotland the country it is today, as well the inevitable conflict with our neighbours.

Alongside his stand-up, Fummey has made a name for himself through his YouTube channel where he shares Scotland’s fascinating history – with his Saturday morning videos attracting thousands of global viewers.

His online presence, as well as his appearances on UK, Australian and Canadian TV, has earned him a number of sold-out shows in Australia, New Zealand and Scotland.

He has appeared on Take a Hike, Countryfile, and the 2022 film The Lost King, telling the story of the discovery of Richard III’s remains under a Leicester car park.

On his success, Fummey said: “It’s incredible the number of opportunities that have come my way because of the pandemic.

“Before lockdown, I was a tour guide during the day and a stand-up comic at night.

“COVID made both jobs unviable, so I started making YouTube videos. I had no idea that they would take off the way they have. It has been incredible.

“But in spite of that unexpected success, the best thing in the world is still doing live stand-up and giving folk a flavour of the history of the country I love along the way.”

Fummey’s Stories of Scotland will take to the stage at the Newlands Centre, Romanno Bridge, on Friday, February 16, at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm.
