THE closest The Beatles got to the Borders was when they played at The Regal in Carlisle in 1963.

Sixty years later a leading tribute band and Live Borders are teaming up with a special offer for Borderers who made the trip over the border to see the band.

Live Borders is offering free tickets to see The Cavern Beatles to anyone from the Borders who journeyed to Carlisle in November, 1963 to see The Beatles.

The Cavern Beatles – named after the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool where The Beatles made nearly 300 appearances – is fully endorsed by their namesake, and are one of the UK's longest established tribute acts.

Jason Moyes from show organisers Live Borders Arts & Creativity, said: “They [The Beatles] played in Carlisle on February 8, then two days later were in the studio recording 10 of the songs that would appear on ‘Please Please Me.’

"They returned on November 21, 1963, a day before the release of ‘With the Beatles’, also the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, so quite a memorable time."

The Cavern Beatles will take to the stage in the Town Hall in Hawick on Saturday, April 26, at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm).

Mr Moyes added: "We are hoping to show some Beatles related films at Heart of Hawick, run some Beatles related creative arts workshops, and have a display of Beatles related books along at the library.

"We hope that Hawick can celebrate the Beatles with us."

Live Borders are asking anyone who saw The Beatles in the early 60s to get in touch and share their stories.

Tickets for The Cavern Beatles are on sale now for £27 through the Live Borders website.
