WORKS planned for a major road will finish earlier than expected, Borders motorists have been told.
The A1 is set to benefit from carriageway improvements at three locations - North Granthouse, Houndwood and South of Bankton.
The works will take now place from March 11-21 with the following road and carriageway closures in place between 7.30pm and 6am each night:
- Monday, March 11 - Thursday, March 21 (except Friday to Sunday nights): The A1 will be closed in both directions between Ayton Junction and Tower Farm Junction. A diversion will be signposted via the A1107, adding an estimated nine minutes and 1.2 miles onto affected journeys
- Wednesday, March 20 - Friday, March 22: The northbound carriageway of the A1 will be closed at Abbotsview Junction. A will be signposted between Abbotsview Junction and Bankton Junction via the A199, A6137, B1377 and A198, adding an estimated eight minutes and two miles onto affected journeys
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.
“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.
“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
