GREYHOUNDS often race from place to place but a group of the retired dogs took a more leisurely pace on an Innerleithen amble.
Last Saturday (March 16) a Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary (SGS) official walk saw 16 greyhounds and lurchers, two honorary hounds, and their accompanying humans, start from the town’s memorial hall.
The walk was organised by SGS volunteer leader Jennifer Allerhand.
Louise Coulson from Innerleithen said: “The walk was to raise awareness of this, solely volunteer run charity and the good work they do, rescuing and rehoming greyhounds and lurchers, throughout Scotland.
“There was a great local turnout and greyhounds from a little further afield – West Linton, Bonnyrigg and even Fife.
“The walk took the forestry track round the Innerleithen Golf Course loop and headed back into town.
“All dogs were very well behaved and enjoyed meeting each other, as did their owners.”
SGS organises similar walks the length and breadth of the country from the central belt to Aberdeen and Inverness.
Dogs given to SGS are placed in foster homes round Scotland till they find a new home via the website or Facebook appeals.
