A MOTORIST has been banned from the road for overtaking a vehicle by going on the wrong side of the road at a roundabout.
Martin Laird, 38, pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to a charge of dangerous driving at a roundabout near West Linton in January.
Depute fiscal India McLean said the accused was following another vehicle on the approach towards West Linton.
The vehicle went round the roundabout in the correct manner but had “to screech to a halt” as Laird’s vehicle had gone round the other side of the roundabout to overtake before speeding away in a 20mph area.
Defence lawyer Liam Alexander said his client realised it was a “poor piece of driving”.
He explained Laird’s father was unwell and he was in a rush to get home and was frustrated at being behind a slow-moving vehicle.
Laird from Cumnock, Ayrshire, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and told to re-sit the extended test as well as being fined £600 with a £40 victim surcharge.
