ORGANISERS of a Borders event are hoping to showcase the importance of supporting local performers and venues.

The people behind Peebles Rock, an event for performers of all ages, are encouraging local audiences to be part of the "rock revival in Peebles".

The event follows a number of musical events across Peeblesshire where local venues are providing much needed spaces for young and up-and-coming musicians.

A Peebles Rock spokesperson said: "Ticket prices for performances in stadiums and arenas are soaring but the kind of places where you can stand a mere feet away from performers and catch a band or singer when they are just starting out, are being squeezed as never before.

"Playing in front of small audiences can teach musicians the art of stagecraft and allow them to find out who they are.

"In the last year or so there have been a range of gigs in Peeblesshire helping to break the post-COVID desert of young people not going out.

"These have been successfully promoted by several not-for-profit nights out aimed at young teens but supported by all."

Recently music events have been held in towns and villages around Peeblesshire.

In November, Broughton Rock saw more than 90 people gather to listen to four local bands – 8 Days, Checkovs Gun, Hoyden and Radio Silence – at the village hall (tickets £7).

In February Oor Space Youthy in Peebles held the Peebles Youth Voice Teen Band Night at the Eastgate Theatre (tickets £3).

The event was aimed at pupils in S1-6, and ran over two nights.

Peebles High School has also seen the return of its Band Nights for their pupils (tickets £3).

And in Stobo, the Stobo Sessions are held every third Saturday of the month.

The sessions invite musicians of all ages to play at the village hall.

The sessions are free, with donations welcomed, and the next event will be on Saturday, April 20, 2-5pm.

Andrew Clarke, organiser of Peebles Rock, added: “We are expecting a big crowd at the Rugby Club so get your tickets now – tickets £7.

"Any profits will go to the Tweedvale WFC charity funds to back young peoples’ music.

"Be a part of the rock revival in Peebles."

Bands set to perform at Peebles Rock include: Checkovs Gun, Yaris, and 8 Days.

Sound and light tech will be provided by Andrew of Tetra Acoustic.
