UPDATE: Residents return home following 'controlled explosion' of 'suspicious package'
RESIDENTS have been evacuated from their homes this evening after a "suspicious package" was found in a Selkirk property.
At around 3.20pm police were called to a property at Kirk Wynd over the discovery of a "suspicious package".
Some residents in properties at Kirk Wynd, Back Row, South Port, and Castle Street areas have been evacuated.
Sharing to social media, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services are in attendance at Kirk Wynd, Selkirk following a report of a suspicious package being found around 3.20pm.
"A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution.
"There are also closures in place on surrounding roads and the public is asked to avoid the area if possible."
The Victoria Hall is open to anyone needing somewhere safe to go while the police are at the scene.
