APPROVAL has been granted for the demolition of a detached building in Galashiels that has fallen into a state of disrepair.
Galashiels-based JB Rentals has been given permission from Scottish Borders Council (SBC) to flatten 26 Roxburghe Street.
The site is earmarked for redevelopment in SBC’s local development plan.
In his report approving approval, Carlos Clarke, SBC lead planning officer, says demolition would be carried out to limit risk to nearby listed buildings and ensure public safety.
He adds: “Ultimately, other regulatory measures will adequately control demolition and public harm risk.”
A method statement outlining instructions on how the building will be demolished has also been submitted.
It states: “Start inside premises by removing small sections of brickwork to ensure surrounding buildings are protected. Remaining brickwork to be removed with high level of care and attention. The site will be secured by Heras fencing.
“The roof section will be removed using a cherry picker with harnesses and hand tools. Start by stripping roof in stages as carefully and safely as possible. Roof material will be lowered to ground level and placed in yard space.”
