WHIPMAN Week is only two weeks away, and there are plenty of events to join in with this summer.
This year the Whipman Play Society is celebrating its 221st anniversary.
Leading up to the start of the celebrations on Friday, May 31 homes, shops and schools around the village have been working to win the best dressed competition.
The competition will be judged on the afternoon of May 31.

Sunday, May 26
Kids’ Ride – Walk ride open to any age from lead rein up (leaves from Howieson Hall, Station Road, Lower Green, Ford and Medwyn Road at 10am) led by West Linton & District Pipe Band
Best turned out horse and rider under 16 (Lyne Park Shield). Contact Bobby Dow on 07714 503585
The Ride will return to the village the same route arriving at the Ford any time from 12 noon.
Friday, May 31
Installation Ceremony/Floats/Procession – Floats gather on the Lower Green from 6pm for judging at 6.30pm, followed by the Installation Ceremony at 7pm prompt in the Marquee, Dancing of the Whipman Reel and the Procession round the village led by West Linton and District Pipe Band around 8pm.
If you would like to take part in the Procession and organise a float but do not have a suitable vehicle please contact Hamish Dykes on 07881 620357 who will try and assist.
Saturday, June 1
The Whipman Rideout – Leaving at 10am led by West Linton & District Pipe Band from Howieson Hall, Station Road returning to the village around 3.30/4ish
Children’s Fancy Dress at 10.30am on the Lower Green (Marquee if it’s wet).
West Linton Market will be on the Lower Green from 9.30am-12.30pm.
The Pyet Deli will be on the green in the morning with teas/coffees and hot rolls
After the ride gathering in the marquee for all the community at 4pm. Please do make your way to the marquee as soon as the Ride returns to the village. Food, bar, live entertainment for all the family followed later in the evening with a disco.
Sunday, June 2
Family Cycle Ride – Leaving from the Health Centre at 10.30am
Procession – 10.40am from School Brae led by West Linton & District Pipe Band down Main Street, Lower Green for Whipman Service in the Marquee at 11 am
Adult Five a Side Football Tournament – 12.30pm, New Moor Road - Refreshments/snacks Contact Campbell Forsyth on 07732 014297
Dog Show – On the Lower Green at 1.30pm and Teas in the Marquee throughout the afternoon
Silent Disco – In the Marquee, organised by Socialize, from 7-9pm
Monday, June 3
Storytelling – In the Marquee organised by Early Learners, 10-11am
Kids Football – P1-P4, 5.30-6.30pm , local caterers will be on the Green
Cycle and Scooter events – P5-S1 to age 14, 5.30-6.30pm
Junior Football – P5-age 15, 6.30pm, you can register your name from 5.30pm
Junior Netball – P5-age 14, 6.30pm
Cycle and Scooter events – Up to nursery and P1 – P4, 6.30pm
Men’s and Women’s Bike Event – 7.30pm
Ladies Netball at Tennis Courts – 8pm
Tuesday, June 4
Tea and Tots Fun Morning – In the Marquee, 9.30am
Junior Disco – In the Marquee, 6-7.15pm, children not yet at School-P3; 7.30-8.45pm, P4-P7 (children not yet at school must be accompanied by a parent or other suitable adult – all parents welcome to stay). When dropping children off at the Marquee, parents please note that a one way system will operate with cars going in at the War Memorial/Church and out at the Village Clock.
Quiz Night – At the Gordon Arms Hotel at 7.30pm – everyone welcome
Wednesday, June 5
Cross Country Events – 6.30pm, local caterers will be on the Green
Bogie Races – 7pm
Wheelbarrow Races –7.30pm

Thursday, June 6
Junior Rugby – P1-P7, 6pm

Procession – From School Brae to War Memorial at 1pm for the laying of the wreaths and the opening of Sports Day
