BUDDING young athletes will have to wait to show off their skills after the County Sports event was postponed.
The historic gathering – arranged by the Peeblesshire Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) – had been set to take place on Wednesday (May 22) at Peebles' Whitestone Park.
But the event has been postponed due to downpours across the Borders.
Last week the PSAA said it had set aside the following Wednesday (May 29) as a back-up date.
A spokesperson said: “This event, which has been running for over 100 years, relies upon the support of parents, teachers and pupils to make it enjoyable and worthwhile. Hopefully, with public support, the County Sports will continue to ‘run’ for many more years.
“If we have to cancel the Sports on the 22nd, due to poor weather or ground conditions, we have set aside the following Wednesday, May 29, as a back-up.
“We are really looking forward to seeing everyone back again this year. Here’s hoping the sun shines.”
This week's event had been due to kick off at 6pm, with admission set at £1 per adult and 50p for secondary school pupils.
