PEOPLE accessing day centre services in Duns and Kelso experience “warmth, kindness and compassion”, an inspection has concluded.

Lanark Lodge Day Centre at Bridge End in Duns provides outreach and home day support for 11 adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.

The service, provided by Scottish Borders Council, also provides support to six people from a satellite service based at Rutherford Square in Kelso.

A representative of the Care Inspectorate paid an unannounced visit to the service between May 14 and May 21.

The key messages were that people were supported by staff who knew them well, that those supported were involved in the development of the service and that support plans held good information.

The service received four ‘very good’ ratings for supporting people’s well-being, leadership, the staff team and the support planned and a ‘good’ rating for its setting.

The report stated: “People experience warmth, kindness and compassion in how they were supported and cared for.

“A relative commented: ‘staff are brilliant, all of them, they are dedicated to what they do'”.
