A BORDERS boxing prodigy will become the first competitor from Galashiels’ club to represent Scotland at a tournament this weekend.
Sam Brown delivered an emphatic first-round stoppage in the 2009 70kg Scottish Golden Gloves final at Ravenscraig earlier this year to secure his third gold medal of the season.
The youngster’s form has attracted the attention of national body Boxing Scotland.
And after passing its assessments, Brown will pull on his country’s colours in the GB Three Nations at junior level.
A Galashiels Boxing Club spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce, after his assessments with Boxing Scotland, Sam Brown has been selected to represent Scotland at the Junior GB Tri Nations in Wales over the weekend of June 8-9 in Cardiff.
“Everyone at the club is proud of Sam as he becomes the first boxer from the club to represent Scotland.
“Sam will be looking to win another gold medal to go with the three Scottish national gold medals he has won this season.
“We all wish Sam the very best of luck for next weekend in his pursuit to become British champion.”
The 15-year-old attends Peebles High School.
