IMPROVEMENT plans launched at two Borders primary schools are set to be endorsed next week.
It follows requirements for improvement following visits by representatives of Education Scotland.
“Important weaknesses” were highlighted at Broughton Primary School and Nursery Class, near Biggar, after an inspection in October last year.
In the category ‘leadership of change’ the school was rated ‘weak’, the report stating that the headteacher had worked with staff to develop a school improvement plan but that it “does not focus on areas which require prompt attention to improve outcomes for children” and that a more “rigorous approach” was needed.
Leadership at Cockburnspath Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) was rated ‘weak’ by inspectors following a visit in February.
The report said the school has been through a period of instability due, in part, to staff changes.
When members of Scottish Borders Council meet on Tuesday (June 18) they will be recommended to endorse improvement plans put in place at both schools.
