BORDERS boxer Sam Brown claimed a silver medal for Scotland at a national championship on the weekend.
The 15-year-old became the first member of Galashiels Boxing Club to represent the Scots when he took to the ring in the GB Three Nations in Cardiff.
He was defeated in the 70kg junior division after losing out to the more experienced Welsh champion Mitchell Jones in the final.
A spokesperson for the Galashiels club said: “It was a great experience for Sam to be part of a Boxing Scotland team that claimed 14 gold medals and 12 silver medals – the most successful Scottish junior and youth team to compete at the GB tri nations. It has been a brilliant season for Sam and no doubt we will see him in a Scotland vest again.”
Boxing Scotland had set a new record in 2022 with 10 gold medals won at the event in England, before equalling that tally last summer at the competition in Motherwell.
But the 2024 squad in Wales surpassed all expectations to deliver a whopping medal haul.
Borderer Brown, who attends Peebles High School, has had a sparkling season, securing three gold medals.
