A NEW café could soon be on the menu at the heart of Melrose.
A planning bid has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council for the change of use of a former art gallery at 23 Market Square.
A submission with the application says: “The proposal aims to convert the unit into a café with support kitchen on the basement level.
“On the ground floor seating will be provided at the front and rear of the property with a central counter serving both areas.
“A new customer accessible toilet will be provided at the rear of the property on the ground floor.
“The existing shop front and entrance will remain broadly unchanged. The existing metal work and timber framing will be re-painted in olive green.”
An outlet, known as The Gallery, closed at the location in September last year.
