A 42-YEAR-OLD man has been accused of assaulting three people by striking them with a vehicle after they tried to stop him driving out of a Galashiels car park.

Hugh Sutherland appeared in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court and was charged with assault to severe injury, assault to injury, assault and culpable and reckless conduct.

He also faces charges of failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident to the police.

Sutherland, who gave an address in Clackmannanshire, made no plea and the case was continued for further examination. He was granted bail.

It follows an incident in the Hall Street area of Galashiels on Thursday afternoon when a vehicle was reportedly driven out of the Car Parts 4 U car park.
