AN UNINSURED driver who seriously injured a pedestrian after knocking her down has been ordered to pay her £2,400 in compensation at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Twenty-year-old Kairo Kennedy, of St Andrews Street, Galashiels, has also been banned for 12 months after admitting a charge of causing serious injury by careless driving.
The court heard he did not have insurance at the time of the accident in Balmoral Avenue on November 6.
Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said his client simply did not see the woman who suffered a double fracture to her leg which required an operation.
He added that Kennedy repeatedly apologised to the woman.
Sheriff Kevin McCarron ordered Kennedy to pay the compensation at the rate of £400 a month.
