BORDERERS who have requested but not yet received their postal vote can pick up a pack in person this weekend.

There has been a national problem with the delivery of postal votes, with many people still awaiting their delivery.

But a drop-in facility has been organised by Scottish Borders Council at its headquarters in Newtown St Boswells this weekend for those who are heading away on holiday next week.

It will be open from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30.

Voters should arrive with photographic identification and proof of address, and a postal pack will be issued to them.

David Robertson, returning officer for the Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk County Constituency, said: “We’re aware this is a national problem, but we need to take action locally.

“I want to assure everyone we will do everything we can to make sure people in the Borders are given their democratic rights to vote in the General Election on July 4.

“We are putting in extra resource over the weekend to help deal with the situation.

“Your vote pack may still be in the post and be delivered next week.

“Please only attend if you have not yet received your postal vote and you will not be at home next week to receive it.

“If you already have your postal vote, please return it as soon as possible through the Royal Mail."

Only voters from Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk will be issued replacements.

Any electors for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale should contact Dumfries and Galloway Council for a replacement.
