A NEWLY formed grassroots team for girls living in the Borders has received a sponsorship boost.
Borders Girls’ Rugby is an initiative connecting youngsters in the under 16 and under 18 age grades who already play for Gala, Kelso and Berwick.
There are currently not enough players to form competition teams at each club, and so the plan was formed for a Borders team to ensure girls who wanted to play at a higher level could do so without having to go to other regions or drop out altogether.
The sides will compete in the Scottish East Region Leagues, and the team has secured an SRU-funded head coach.
In another boost, Scottish broadband provider GoFibre has been announced as a sponsor.
Ben Campbell, director and club founder of Borders Girls’ Rugby, said: “We are delighted to be partnered and supported by GoFibre, and this sponsorship agreement will allow us to keep the sport that we all love local and within a community setting.
“GoFibre have set us up on the right track with brand new kit, and we look forward to bringing it to the pitch come the start of the season.”
Girls from other clubs in the area are actively welcomed to join the team.
