TEMPORARY traffic lights will be in place on Borders main road next week to allow for new road markings to be installed.
The traffic lights will be in place on the A7 in Hawick at Buccleuch Road, near Volunteer Park, from 7.30pm on Monday, July 22 to 6.30am on July 23.
The new markings will contribute to a new controlled pedestrian crossing in the town.
The lights will be in place to ensure the safety of workers and road users while the new markings are installed on the 150 metre stretch of the A7.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “These works will contribute to the delivery of a new controlled pedestrian crossing, which will improve safety for pedestrian and cyclists travelling along this stretch of the A7 in Hawick.
“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding.”
In advance of these works all the relevant stakeholders - including Scottish Borders Council and Police Scotland - have been consulted.
These works could be postponed or cancelled in the event of adverse weather conditions.
