A PEEBLES rower has secured her second world record after completing a gruelling challenge.
Taylor Winyard was part of a team looking to travel 2,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean, billed as the ‘world’s toughest row’.
The Borderer and her ‘Pacific Triow’ mates Jess Goddard and Charlotte Irving left Monterey Harbor, California, on June 8 with their sights firmly set on Hanalei Bay on Kauai, Hawaii.
And just over 38 days of pushing their physical and mental strength to the limit later, they arrived on the island on Tuesday (July 16).
The Stobo Castle director helped to set a new world record for the fastest trio to row across the Pacific.
It is her second global accolade after being part of the fastest mixed trio to cross the Atlantic back in 2022.
A spokesperson for Stobo Castle said: “They have achieved the unimaginable – conquering the mighty Pacific and etching their names in the maritime history books.
“From battling fierce waves to navigating the open sea, this incredible 2,800-mile journey has been a true testament to human spirit and perseverance, and showcased the team’s remarkable resilience and tenacity. The expedition was also aimed at raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research UK, with a significant sum already collected for the cause.
“Along with Taylor, the record-setting team included Jess Goddard and Charlotte Irving, who each brought unique strengths and expertise to the voyage. Their successful crossing of the Pacific Ocean is not only a personal triumph but also a monumental achievement in the world of rowing and oceanic exploration.
“Taylor now holds an incredible two world records after completing her first challenge rowing the Atlantic Ocean in January 2022 as part of a mixed trio team and is the first Scot ever to row both oceans.”
