A GALASHIELS-BASED support service for people with learning difficulties has been rated ‘very good’ following a recent inspection.

The Richmond Fellowship Scotland – Borders Intensive Service is registered to provide support to people living in their own home and in the community.

It is based in a small apartment complex in Lintburn Street providing intensive support to six people, while also supporting people living in the community across the Borders.

A short notice visit from the Care Inspectorate was completed on June 18, at which time the service was being provided to 10 people.

The key messages were that people shared positive working relationships with staff, which allowed them to achieve positive outcomes.

Staff were skilled and had a good understanding of their roles and promoted healthy eating, supporting people to cook meals at home.

Regular multi-agency meetings took place to ensure key information was shared between relevant parties.

The service was rated ‘very good’ for both supporting people’s well-being and its staff team.

The report states: “People’s personal plans gave clear guidance about the level of support they needed to access primary health appointments such as the GP or dentist.

“Staff maintained daily notes about people’s well-being and discussed specific issues relating to individuals’ health needs in handover meetings each morning.”
