A comedy duo in Peebles is on the hunt to mentor upcoming stand-up comedians for a show at the Eastgate Theatre.

The show, Live at the Eastgate, will take place on October 3.

Steve Lee and Douglas Roberts are seasoned comedians and have been involved in their spoof radio show about life in Peebles for the last 14 years.

Mr Lee said: "It’ll be a night modelled after ‘Live at the Apollo’ with seven-minute comedy sets from local aspiring stand-up comedians".

Mr Roberts said: “We believe there’s a lot of comedic talent around Peebles and wanted to create a night to showcase it.

“Our comics will take part in three mentoring and rehearsal sessions before the big night on October 3.”

Mr Lee said they are looking for people who feel they have a comic side.

He added: “If you’re the centre of laughs at parties or family gatherings, telling jokes and funny stories, here’s your chance to make that leap as a stand-up comic.

“You will get mentoring from experienced comics and then have a stand-up slot at the Eastgate Theatre in front of a friendly audience.

“It can be scary out there on stage with nothing but yourself and a microphone. That’s why we’re offering three mentoring sessions to help acts prepare fully.

“This could be your big chance, and who knows where it might lead?”

Keen contenders should send them a short video clip of who they are and what they might talk about.

Go to sites.google.com/view/eastgatelive and fill in the short application form.

Mr Roberts said: “We’re looking for up to eight would-be stand-ups to create a fantastic evening of fun.”

Participants must be 16 or older, with proceeds from the show going to the Eastgate Theatre.

The application deadline is noon on September 2.
