Borders Youth Theatre (BYT) has received a funding boost of £10,250 from the Fallago Environment Fund.

The Fallago Environment Fund, which is supported by Roxburghe Estates, Federated Hermes, and EDF Renewables UK, provides financial assistance to projects that enhance cultural, natural and built heritage within the region.

The funding will contribute to BYT's core expenditures for the next year including staffing costs and venue hire.

BYT provides regular theatre workshops for young people across the Scottish Borders, an activity that is highly valued by its participants.

These workshops provide the opportunity for participants to learn cooperative working and theatre skills, as well as meeting other young people from often remote areas of the Borders.

Many participants go on to develop their careers in the theatre arts, using the transferable skills they have learned in the theatre workshops.

Some even return to BYT to pass on their knowledge and experience to the next generation of participants.

Her Grace, The Duchess of Roxburghe, speaking on behalf of the Fallago Environment Fund, said: "We believe that Borders Youth Theatre plays a hugely important role in the cultural life of young people across the Scottish Borders, supporting their personal development by using drama to teach them confidence and transferable life skills in a fun and welcoming environment.

"We’re delighted that funds generated by the Fallago Rig windfarm are being used to help continue this important work."

Borders Youth Theatre is managed by volunteer trustees and operates without premises, contracting professional workshop leaders as needed.

Chairwoman of Borders Youth Theatre Susan Stewart said: "We’re extremely grateful to the Fallago Environment Fund for this generous grant.

"As an organisation, Borders Youth Theatre is facing increasing cost pressures, particularly following the recent withdrawal of long-term grant support from LiveBorders (previously Scottish Borders Council).

"While this award from the Fallago Environment Fund covers a large proportion of the costs of the next 12 months of workshops, we will be continuing our fundraising efforts as we seek to ensure the future of this important community resource."

The Fallago Environment Fund grant applications are administered by Tweed Forum and are assessed biannually.

The deadlines for applications are 1 September and 1 March.
